Small Steps 4 (2024/25)
The McManus Creative Learning team worked in collaboration with Dundee libraries to provide classes from two local primary schools opportunity to create a fourth addition of a child-friendly leaflet based on the existing ‘Small Steps’ leaflet, launched in summer 2022. The project involved delivery and creation of a fourth resource to help young people learn about some of the women who have made significant contributions to society in Dundee and beyond.
Over seven sessions, 98 pupils from St Ninian's Primary School and Rowantree Primary School worked alongside staff from The McManus Creative Learning Team, Dundee School Libraries Services and Dundee Women’s Trail to investigate women from the existing Dundee Women’s Trail.
The project was delivered through a mixture of offsite school workshops and a visit to The McManus for a tour and a hands-on printing workshop in the learning studio. Through portraiture, storytelling and comic creation, the children created their own artworks and comics and imagined what life would have been like for these women. Their artwork and research work informed the fourth and final 'Small Steps' leaflet.
