Bash Street’s Back at the McMenace (2018/19)
Sneaky Peeks & Comic Workshop with Nigel Parkinson
It is a well-known fact that many years ago, Dundee High School were the inspiration for the Bash Street Kids sketches and stories created by artists working at DC Thomson’s.
Between June and September 2018, the Creative Learning Team worked with Dundee High School pupils as part of our Bash Street’s Back at the Menace schools programme which celebrates Beano’s 80th birthday. Sessions and visits were designed and planned in consultation with teaching staff and took place pre exhibition opening and throughout Bash Street’s Back at the McMenace exhibition.
Bash Street Summer S’kool
Our 2018 summer holiday project offered young people aged between 10-14 years an opportunity to explore the Bash Street’s Back at the McMenace exhibition through art, music and drama, inspired by the energy, colour, stories and fun of The Bash Street Kids and The Beano comics. Each Skool Department was tutored by freelance artists from Dundee Creative Comic Space, freelance musicians and freelance actors and facilitated and supported by the Creative Learning Team.
The Bash Street Summer S’Kool was part of our year-long programming for Scotland’s 2018 Year of Young People and was delivered in partnership with Dundee Creative Comic Space, freelance musicians Ross Millar and Josef Boon and Zero Three 15 Theatre Company.
