ARTIST ROOMS: Young People’s Projects Lawrence Weiner (2018/19)
ARTIST ROOMS: Young People’s Projects was a 5 month Learning & Engagement programme supported by the ARTIST ROOMS bursary programme.
The exhibition was brought to Dundee through a partnership between The McManus and ARTIST ROOMS, a touring collection of over 1,600 works of modern and contemporary art. As part of this partnership, the museum supported a unique learning project, co-produced with young people to highlight the experiences of young audiences within a museum & gallery context and to help support greater understanding of conceptual art.
From early November 2018 to March 2019, young people from across Dundee visited The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum to explore an exhibition of work by Lawrence Weiner, one of the world’s most influential, conceptual artists.
The project invited local schools, FE & HE students and local youth groups to take part in a lively programme of gallery tours, presentations, creative workshops and investigative sessions, bringing together young people, museum staff, creative practitioners, representatives from partner organisations and members of the public to enable a shared dialogue surrounding the exhibition and the artists’ work.
