The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum, managed by Leisure & Culture Dundee, will receive funding of £75000 over the next three years from the Northwood Charitable Trust. This backing will allow the museum’s Creative Learning Team to develop a new learning & engagement project called ‘McManus Connections’ which will focus on helping children, families and young people most in need.

This project will deliver creative opportunities including outreach sessions, museum- based gallery tours, holiday programmes, large-scale co-delivered events and co-creation with groups of new learning resources and activities.

The funding will also allow the team to expand on support for positive mental health within educational settings, families, non-traditional family groups and welcome the many New Scots and Ukrainian families to the museum.

McManus Connections aims to position The McManus as an open, positive and welcoming destination that narrates stories of Dundee’s rich heritage and history for a broader and more diverse range of families.

Anna Day, Head of Cultural Services at Leisure & Culture Dundee, said

“We are ambitious and want to grow our civic role as a museum and deepen the social impact of culture in the city by supporting those most in need.”

“We aim to improve the wellbeing of participants and help them feel more connected to the museum and city they live in through participation in creative activities linked to arts, heritage and culture.”

“We would like to thank Northwood Charitable Trust for this funding, which will help us reach even more children, young people and families.”

Blair Thomson, Director, the Northwood Charitable Trust, said

“The Trust is delighted to be able to support McManus Connections and the important work it plans to do. Supporting children, young people and families is an important part of Northwood’s work and this sounds an exciting project.”

The project’s activities and engagements will strengthen existing partnerships with Home-Start Dundee, Scrap Antics (New Scots Families Groups) and Kinship Carers while also developing new partnerships within Dundee Children & Families Services and many other local community groups across the city.
