Invitation to join in 150th Anniversary Celebrations at The McManus

The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum has invited everyone to join them in celebrating their official 150th Anniversary during the afternoon of Tuesday 12 September. This will be a birthday party to remember with the chance to chat, enjoy and learn about Dundee’s favourite building with friendly staff at the museum.

The attraction’s choir in residence, Loadsweeminsingin’, will launch proceedings with a dazzling rendition of Happy Birthday. Lord Provost Ian Borthwick and Managing Director of Leisure & Culture Dundee, Stewart Murdoch will then open the doors to an exclusive programme of memorable moments to enjoy throughout the afternoon.

Visitors will be welcomed at reception where they will be encouraged to explore the galleries and discover 150 years of The McManus. Staff will be on hand to chat about the history and work of the museum through conservation, exhibitions and permanent displays.  The Scottish Ensemble will hold musical pop ups inspired by the city’s collections while ZeroThree15 theatre company will be entertaining visitors by delivering irreverent nods to some of the galleries’ favourite artworks. For children and the young at heart there will be the chance to make McManus Happy Birthday hats and We Love McManus Rosettes.

Sinclair Aitken, Chair of Leisure & Culture Dundee said

“We have been enjoying a real celebration of the building, the city’s collections and the people who have shaped it this year. We are now  looking forward to visitors joining us for a 150th birthday party to remember. We would also like to thank everyone who has visited us so far and made it such a special year and look forward to many more great years ahead.”

The McManus will open between 12pm and 5pm on Tuesday September 12, 2017 and they ask that friends, family, colleagues and neighbours assemble on the front terrace for the official opening from 11.45am.
