Staff at The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum will be wishing visitors ‘A Guid New Year to All’ at their First Foot at The McManus event on Wednesday 3 January, 2018. They are inviting everyone to join them for a special afternoon of free family friendly activities to welcome in a brand New Year. There’s plenty to do, see and explore at the museum and the fun starts at 12pm with a traditional New Year’s Welcome from guest pipers. There will also be live music throughout the afternoon from acoustic duo 'Melodia'.

The Victoria Gallery will have magical fairy fun for all the family with New Year themed storytelling sessions, designed especially for younger visitors and the young at heart. Visitors can also drop in and gather ‘roond’ the traditional Scottish fireplace in the Learning Studio. The Learning Team will be on hand to help post First Foot Wishes and will be offering lots of brilliant New Year themed craft activities to enjoy. There is also the opportunity to hang out with members of the museum’s Youth Action Group, who’ll be bringing their own unique blend of creativity to the event with pop up activities and information about Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018.

The Family Space will be celebrating some of the amazing highlights from last year’s Schools and Community Group projects where there will be a fond farewell to the museum’s 150th Anniversary year. In the Gothic Hall, members of the McManus 168 Supporters Group will be asking what visitors would like to see
happen at The McManus in 2018. They will also be explaining how to get involved in the group who are currently researching the original McManus museum founding members.

Sinclair Aitken, Chair of Leisure & Culture Dundee said

“This event is becoming a firm favourite with visitors and is a great chance to get together with family, friends and neighbours to bring in the New Year. We look forward to sharing a fun afternoon and I would encourage everyone to get along and get involved in all the activities.”

There will also be a voucher for a free cup of tea, filter coffee or soft drink and the free drop in event runs 12-4pm on Wednesday January 3, 2018. The event has been organised in partnership with the McManus 168 Supporters Group with assistance provided from Dundee City Council’s Hogmanay Celebrations Grant Scheme.
