The Creative Learning team at The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum held a showcase of artwork to celebrate their successful partnership with Art Angel.
Art Angel is a local organisation at the forefront of supporting people with mental health problems. The charity aims to support people in their attempts to get better and stay well through active participation in the arts.
The McManus collaborated with Art Angel to offer a group of 15 adults the opportunity to engage in a mixture of creative activities including printmaking, photography, painting and collage, which were delivered both onsite and through outreach across the two organisations. With behind-the-scenes curatorial talks, guided gallery tours, and access to take home art materials, the project encouraged continued creativity beyond the gallery.
Inspired by A Weather Eye, The McManus’ latest exhibition, participants responded to themes of nature, climate; and emotion through their own artistic lens. The results are a stunning collection of creative and personal artworks displayed in the museum’s Creative Learning Studio.
Sharron Phin Learning and Engagement Assistant at The McManus’s Creative Learning Team said,
"It was rewarding to see the participants' artistic response to our 'Weather Eye' exhibition. The project was designed to inspire, boost mood and promote overall well-being through visual mediums. As a museum, it is important to us to provide a supportive environment where individuals can connect with others who share similar interests and be creative together. We look forward to expanding our partnership with Art Angel in the future."
Studio Directors Jasmine Summerton and Rachael Moses said,
“We felt this was a really special collaboration, where each participant was fully seen and heard. We noticed how confident, inspired and motivated this made the group and we hope to collaborate again in the future.”
