This year’s display of Winter Watercolours is themed around travel. Our selection includes locations from the Highlands of Scotland to Continental Europe, and includes architecture, local scenes and landscapes by Scottish artists.
Today, with travel restrictions easing and holiday destinations opening up, people are once again on the move. In three hours, we can be in Inverness, Paris or Palma for a City Break, and document the whole trip on our smart phones. In comparison, nineteenth century travel was slow, arduous and prohibitively expensive. For most of the population, the wonders of the wider world were seen through the work of artists.
